Trump May Reopen Tavern on the Green

Already owning and operating at least a dozen properties in NYC including Wollman Rink in Central Park, Donald Trump may add yet another jewel to his crown: the venerable Tavern on the Green. Trump has been negotiating with the union for some months now and appears to be close to a deal. According to the Wall Street Journal, Trump plans to spend at least $20 million on renovations and will re-hire employees who were out of a job when the restaurant closed over a year ago.

If he names it Trump’s Tavern on the Green, or Trumpers on the Green, or Trump’s Got All the Green, I may well spit. (P.S. I used to write for his magazine, and they stiffed me on the last story — a millionaire! Stiffed a freelance writer! Only in NY.)

I’ll bet a dinner there that it WILL be “Trump Tavern on the Green”

And as for stiffing us free-lance writers, you know that old bromide: “The rich get richer…” for a reason….

Even so, I hope someone puts the Tavern back in business…had many a lovely evening there when I lived in New York City “back in the day….”

Popsicle King

Better known as “King of Pops” in Atlanta’s Poncey/Highland neighborhood, this street cart looks just like any of the countless frozen confection stands across the country. But for the growing throng of regulars who have turned on to Steven Carse’s popsicles made with all-natural ingredients and intriguing flavor combinations, it’s much more than that. “I’ve […]

Restaurant History

A good salad is hard to find — even in California. Reliable Caesars and Cobbs colonize menus everywhere, as do ubiquitous piles of mixed greens dressed with vinaigrette. Beyond that, creative salads made with quality ingredients are still an exception. For too long, they were also the province of expensive, sit-down restaurants. In the last […]
